Workshop Report: Experiences in Livelihoods adapted to Climate and Security Risks, MALI

In Mali, as in the rest of the Sahel, the main factors contributing to food insecurity and malnutrition are multi-hazard factors such as civil insecurity –resulting from conflicts over access to natural resources and socio-political upheavals– and climatic shocks which are increasingly frequent and severe.

These factors impact the livelihoods of the population, mainly dependent on subsistence livestock and agriculture production, causing displacement, mass migration, and populations more dependent on aid. In turn, massive displacement and migration increase pressure and overexploitation of already weakened natural resources.

Within the framework of the Pilot Programmatic Partnership (PPP), the Malian Red Cross (MRC) in coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Danish RC, Spanish RC, and Luxembourg RC are working to provide an effective response to communities in need, building resilience through the protection of existing livelihoods and rehabilitation of lost ones.

The internal workshop "Assessment and sharing of existing experiences within the MRC in the field of resilient livelihoods in the face of climate and security risks" is one of the sub-activities of this programme. Only available in French.
