Introduction

There has been a significant effort to develop key indicators to facilitate design of quality projects and assessment of impact, such as the SPHERE Project, or in thematic groups as the global Food Security Cluster, etc. Despite the considerable progress achieved in introducing indicators in some sectors (water and sanitation, shelter or nutrition, etc.), there was still a need to develop a set of agreed, evidence-based, standard programme indicators for livelihoods programming. In order to respond to this need, the IFRC Livelihoods Centre developed in 2015, within the framework of an  DG ECHO-funded action, two valuable sets of Indicators for livelihoods programming:

1) List of Key Livelihoods Programme Indicators (outcome level)

2) Compilation of Livelihood Indicators, classified by different criteria or dimensions.

These indicators result from a comprehensive analysis of existing resources and a collaborative process involving nearly 30 specialised members of different humanitarian organisations, back donors and consultants. These specialists participated at different levels, at the higher-level design and definition, and in reviewing and validating the process and the results.
