The 12th Mediterranean Conference was hosted by the Red Cross of the Republic of San Marino from the 25th to the 28th of May 2015 under the motto ‘Our Principles, our Move’.
The Conference brought together 150 Delegates of the International RC/RC Movement, including representatives of the 26 Mediterranean National Societies members, the ICRC, the IFRC, the Standing Commission, the RC/RC Climate Centre, the IFRC Livelihoods Centre and other organisations.
The National Societies shared the commitment to increase their response to the growing humanitarian issues in the Mediterranean region, as well as advocate in favour of the most vulnerable groups, by adopting the San Marino Declaration, which endorsed the priority areas of common action based upon the themes outlined during the event, namely:
-
Fundamental Principles, link to Humanitarian Diplomacy
-
Crisis Response and Preparedness
-
Youth and Volunteering promotion
-
Climate Change and Environment
-
Assistance and Protection to Migrants
-
Migration and Youth
-
Trafficking in persons
-
Social Inclusion and the Promotion of a Culture of Non-violence and Peace
Previously to the conference, for the first time, a RC/RC Mediterranean Youth Meeting was held from the 23rd to 25th May. 30 young people from 17 National Societies reaffirmed the commitment to foster:
-
Partnership Building
-
Youth engagement and volunteering promotion, in line with the Youth Engagement Strategy (Y.E.S)
-
Peace building and Non-Violence promotion
-
Humanitarian consequences of migration
-
Substance abuse
Unanimously considered as a relevant and genuine youth voice in the region, the youth declaration was annexed to the San Marino Declaration as a fundamental part of it.
